But Squeakles seems frustrated when other people don't know what he's talking about and he urges us to remember or understand. In the last five minutes I've heard him do this three times to the babysitter.
Squeakles: What's that blue and white thing?
Babysitter: What blue and white thing?
Squeakles: Ohhhhhhhhhhhh, that blue and white thing over there? [pointing]
Babysitter: Oh that blue and white thing on the floor? (She was right.)
Squeakles: [asked something I didn't quite catch]
Babysitter: When what?
Squeakles: Ohhhhhhhhhhh, when you throwed up last night?
Me (from my desk where I'm supposed to be working and not paying attention to them): Oh, you mean how you threw up this morning? (He only threw up a little bit.)
Babysitter: [Brings sponge over to clean up the high chair.]
Squeakles: Can I have that sponge?
Babysitter: What do you need that sponge for?
Squeakles: Ohhhhhhhhhh, like I did? To use to wipe so I can throw up lasterday tonight?
Have I mentioned that Squeakles is also totally confused by time terms? He uses past tense terms to refer to things that happened in the past, but he is pretty much never correct about whether it was actually last night or yesterday. And he doesn't ever say anything means "more than 24 hours ago" (like "last week"), though he clearly remembers things from a long time ago.
And "lasternight" is his own brain child.
