Over the weekend I discovered roasted garlic.
We bought a new toaster oven and I've been bowled over by how amazing it is, which is really an unfair comparison to our old toaster which was terrible because it was broken. Somehow the toast setting had broken - the button simply couldn't be pressed - so we had to use the oven function to make toast. My technique: put the bread in, turn on the toaster oven, walk away, forget all about it within the span of 30 seconds - and inevitably come back to crisply burnt bread.
So of course I love our new toaster oven that actually toasts without burning.
Last week I used our new toaster oven to roast chicken and garlic. Using the convection setting. Fancy indeed.
I overcooked the chicken a bit because I didn't realize that the convection setting cooks faster than a regular oven, but it wasn't too far overdone. The garlic was amazing. So amazing that when I ate the leftovers for lunch yesterday I ate nearly an entire HEAD of garlic. With each bite, I thought, I should really stop. Supposedly garlic can make you smell really bad...
Well.
It's HORRIBLE. Not only do I stink (my husband cannot kiss me, a day later, without pulling back, and this is a man who is unable to smell a dirty diaper or spoiled milk), but wow, the cramping and the gas. I had no idea.
I've since read that it can take 72 hours to get garlic out of your system. 72 hours is THREE days. Which means I won't be clear until Thursday. I am sorry to everyone who has to interact with me between now and then - my family, my officemate (yes, I'm sharing an office this year due to construction) and oh, only about 75 students.
